Egg Drop

Picture 1

Have you heard of egg?

Egg wants to fly. But he doesn't want to wait until he has hatched.

We participated in a whole school project to help Egg fly. Using ideas from the story and our own research into flying machines we designed our own contraptions that would help Egg have a flying experience but would protect him from smashing when he landed.

After much discussion, we all agreed that a parachute would be Egg's best option.

Using what we discovered from our parachute experiments, we went on to design our own flying machines for Egg.

We we then voted for the best designs and worked in teams to create them ready for testing.

And then came the day of the big drop... we loaded fresh eggs into our designs.

Mrs Hanley arranged with the builders down the street for our flying machines to be tested from the top of their scaffolding.

We watched in anticipation as our creations were loaded into the JCB and lifted to the top floor where the building site manager was waiting. On our count down he released each flying machine and we held our breath to see if our eggs would fly.

Not all of our eggs survived the fall... but most did!
