In this week's Dig School Workshop, you will find out about some of the techniques archaeologists use to find out about the past.
Archaeological excavation is an expensive and destructive process, so it’s hugely helpful to be able to find out as much as possible about what’s underground without digging.
In X-Ray Vision we will explore the conditions and techniques that enable us to see below the surface.
Students will learn how to distinguish buried walls from buried ditches in aerial photos of arable crops and parched pastures, and how to recognise common sorts of features from Bronze Age burial mounds to Roman forts. They will draw their own plans and then be able to search a place of their choosing.
