Fractions have been at the forefront of our maths focus recently. The children have been converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice-versa, finding equivalent fractions and adding fractions with the same denominator. Year 5 have made some great progress and are keen to develop their understanding of fractions.
We started by ordering fractions either below, equivalent to or above one half. We did this by laying pieces of paper on the ground and deciding where to put the fraction. The children did this by helping each other work out where to place their fractions. Teamwork was essential as Year 5 persevered to order all the fractions.
