    Holidays in Term Time

Holidays within TERM TIME will not be authorised by school.  All children with an absence period of 3 days or longer will be required to provide medical evidence.  Holiday’s taken in term time could result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued. (Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003).

Leave of absence can be granted under exceptional circumstances.

An application for leave must be made in writing and addressed to the Headteacher.

    Absence Procedure

Parents or carers are expected to inform the school of any unplanned absence on the first day by 8.40am, or as soon as possible thereafter. This should be done by contacting the school office or attendance team on 0161 834 4150or via thecathedralsch@st-peter-st-john.salford.sch.uk

Absences due to illness will normally be authorised unless there is reasonable doubt about the validity of the reason provided. Where concerns arise, the school may request supporting evidence such as a medical note, prescription, appointment card, or similar documentation. Requests for evidence will be made only when necessary. If sufficient assurance is not provided, the absence may be recorded as unauthorised and parents or carers will be informed.

Medical and dental appointments will be authorised where the school has been notified in advance. Parents or carers should contact the school by phone or email and, where applicable, provide written confirmation for the class teacher and office if a pupil needs to leave during the school day.

Wherever possible, families are encouraged to arrange appointments outside of school hours. If this is not feasible, pupils should miss only the minimum amount of school time required. Requests for other term-time absences must be submitted as early as possible ahead of the planned absence.

    Rewarding Excellent Attendance

At our school, we celebrate and encourage excellent attendance through our weekly Classopoly initiative.

Every Friday during assembly, classes that achieve 96% attendance or above earn a turn on the Classopoly board. This gives them the chance to win a range of fun and exciting rewards for their class.

    Prizes can include:

    • Crazy Hair Day
    • Funky Sock Day
    • Extra iPad time
    • Golden Time
    • Special treats such as milkshakes, chocolate and marshmallows

Classopoly has become a highlight of the week, helping to build a positive culture around attendance while giving pupils something to look forward to and enjoy together.

We are proud of the enthusiasm our pupils show and the teamwork within classes to achieve these goals.
