Does it Matter What You Flush Down the Toilet? - A Biodegradability Investigation.

Did you know that the water you drink today is the same water that was around at the time of the dinosaurs?!

Water moves around in a never ending cycle - The Water Cycle, and though we might use it for different purposes, it is always returned to the water cycle eventually.

This got us thinking of all the different uses for water - we led us to toilets!

We are very aware of sustainability and protecting our environment so we asked - Does it matter what we flush down the toilet?

First, we found out more about the sewage system and we saw images of fatbergs that block our sewers, and we had some interesting confessions of the things we ourselves have put down the toilet over the years!

Working in groups, we planned our fair test and observed the properties of the different types of paper we had chosen to test.

Then, we tested different papers to see how they would behave when flushed - would they dissolve or block the pipes?

Using a bottle, and vigorous shaking for 1 minute, we recreated the flush and observed what had happened to our paper.
