Chinese New Year

We have been learning about Chinese New Year. The festival celebrates a new year on the Chinese calendar and their most important holiday of their culture, marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Chinese New Year is celebrated  with friends and family, fireworks, dragon dances, traditional food and giving gifts. Each year is named after one of 12 animals, this year it was the snake.

The children used their cutting and joining skills to make lanterns and dragons, as well as using their own experiences and imaginations to roleplay in the Chinese restaurant.

At the end of the week we listened to some Chinese music and shared a meal with our friends, we ate egg fried rice, sweet and sour sauce and prawn crackers... It was delicious, even enough for a  second helping!

Tasty food and Music!
