For our 'Long Ago' topic we visited Lark Hill place, a Victorian street. It was very exciting as we saw how people lived a long time ago, it was different to the way we live today. During Victorian times, people did not have a washing machine, they washed their clothes using their hands and large buckets. We pretended we were Victorians washing our clothes.. it was such hard work!

There were many shops on the street. If you needed your shoes mending, you would visit the local cobbler. We saw tiny shoes and very large shoes in the cobblers shop. There was a toy shop. "This is my favourite shop," Luna told her friends. As we walked around, we heard different sounds, including footsteps, people talking, clip-clop... Mrs McFadden asked us what we thought was making the sound, and Bryan replied, "Horses."  We talked about transport in Victorian times. To our amazement, we saw a very strange looking bicycle. Mrs McFadden called it a Penny Farthing. It had a very big wheel and a small wheel. We wondered how a person would ride it because it was so big! Another form of transport we could see was cartridges. They would be pulled by horses. On the street there was a wheel maker and a horseshoe maker. This shop was for a blacksmith. Because horses were used as transport, a blacksmith had an important job making shoes for their tired hooves.

There was so much to see. Please talk to your child about their experience
