Celebrations!!

What a celebration!

To commemorate the King's coronation we celebrated by dressing in red, white and blue, making bunting for our classroom, decorating biscuits and making jam sandwiches, ready for a party. We talked about what a coronation is and why it happens. The children found out some interesting  facts about King Charles III and had some questions of their own. "When was the last King?" asked Lillie. "Does he live at Buckingham Palace?" asked Yennefer. "King Charles II was in 1666 and Samuel Pepys asked if he could knock down the houses to stop the Great fire of London spreading" said George. This had been discussed during our recent history topic!

Before the coronation of the King, the children watched Queen Elizabeth's coronation, they were so amazed at how many people were there, the jewels on the crown, the sceptre and the orb as well as the golden carriage. Eryk had remembered a fact about Queen Elizabeth  "The Queen was 26 years old when she became a queen."

God save our gracious King
