Gruffalo Hunting

Aha! Oho! Whose are these footprints and where do they go?

Year 1 have been Gruffalo hunting at Delamere Forest, they used their storytelling and investigative skills to spot the characters from the Gruffalo story.

By identifying the features of each character they could then use the augmented reality viewers on the Ipads to make the animals come to life.

The children worked together to view each other with the characters from the story and to take the photographs.

Once we had found the Little Brown Mouse, the children did not think that the would ever find the Gruffalo but to their surprise at the end of the trail there he was waiting on a pile of logs ready to greet us!

Story Innovation

Once we had learned to imitate the original story of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson we began to innovate the story to create our own versions.

Our first task was to switch the adjectives describing the Gruffalo to create our own new beast. We discussed and shared ideas to make our beasts as scary and yet inviting as the Gruffalo.

Our next task was to innovate a whole new verse to the story by introducing a new character to the deep dark wood.

We carefully considered the type of creature we would find in a wood and then choose one each to develop into a character.

using the story language from the original book we wrote our own verses.
