During Nursery and Reception all children are assessed using the EYFS Wellcomm Language Screen toolkit. This assesses children’s language skills and knowledge. If after the screening children are found to need extra help to reach their age-related expectations, fun games and activities will be planned using specific targets that are required to meet children’s individual needs. These activities will be completed in either small groups or during one to one time with myself.
During KS1 and KS2 we use the Wellcomm Primary toolkit to help identify any speech and language concerns that teachers may have with individual children. This helps us to identify specific areas of need and deliver appropriate and focused activities to aid the children’s progress and enhance their communication and language skills.
As a school we work closely with the Speech and Language Therapist and with children who require additional support, together helping children to achieve their individual targets.
