Reception

Welcome to the Reception Class page of our school website. We hope this page gives you an insight into the wonderful learning that takes place in our class.

Our class team consists of Mrs Hamer, Mrs Culkin, Mrs McFadden and of course, our fantastic children.

Autumn Explorers!

We had a fabulous time in Heaton Park looking for signs that the season of Autumn had arrived. We looked at the beautiful colours of the leaves and listened to the sounds that they made under our feet. We spotted some lovely carvings in trees and even got to play "pooh sticks" as we crossed over the stream.

Delightful Diwali

This term we have been looking at the season of Autumn. We explored the changes that happen in our local environment during Autumn and looked at some of the festivals that are celebrated. We found out about Diwali...the festival of light, which is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs. We learnt that homes are decorated with lights and oil lamps during Diwali. We used our creative talents to make our own Diya pots. As you can see from the pictures, we certainly have a talented set of children here in the ReceptIon Class.

Pumpkins and Party!

We finished a busy first half term by having a 'spooky party' to raise money for Cafod. Everybody enjoyed the opportunity to get dressed up and take part in some 'spooktacular' activities.

Pancake Day

Reception children had a ‘flipping great time’ on Tuesday as they made pancakes

to celebrate Shrove Tuesday or ‘pancake day’ as it is more widely known.

The children then decided what their favourite topping was before tucking in.

However, there is now a problem...what happened to Mrs Culkin’s pancake?

Did somebody eat it? Did it run away? Or is there a pancake robber lurking somewhere in school?

We are on a mission to find out!

World Book Day 2018

Wow...what an amazing array of outfits were on show on Thursday when the children dressed up as their favourite characters to celebrate 'World Book Day'. As you can see from the photographs, they all looked amazing!

Many of the children also took part in our school 'book in a box' competition and some of the entries were amazing. The winners will be announced as soon as the judging has finished, so watch this space!

'Egg-citing' times

The Foundation Unit have had an 'egg-citing' time over the past two weeks looking after a special delivery. Ten eggs arrived and it was our job to look after them. We put them in an incubator to keep warm and three days later, out of the eggs hatched fluffy chicks. We have had a great time looking after them and watching them grow.
