We have been exploring signs of Winter, during the cold weather the children had the opprtunity to see and feel frost, snow and ice!
Mrs Mc Fadden was so forgetful, she kept forgetting to bring in our water trays at the end of each day, they were full of toys, when we arrived in the morning the water and toys had frozen! How would we rescue them? Each day, Mrs Mc Fadden gave us different things to help us melt the ice such as, cold water, washing up liquid, salt, sand, warm water and glitter.
"It's freezing" Said George-Leo. " It's like a rock" Ayoub "The ice is melting" Aayan. "Cold" Atrin.
The children explored each material and realised the warm water melted the ice quicker.
Why is did the water freeze?
"Because it is very cold" replied Aayan.
How else can we freeze water if it isn't cold outside? "The fridge drawer" (freezer) replies Mo.
The children accessed many activities in class, including making snowmen with the playdough, creating snowflakes by joining marshmallows and straws together and through small world role play.
We have also been looking at cold colours, white, grey, black, blue, purple. They created winter pictures using different shades of blue and grey. To create these colours they had to mix paint together, adding white to make lighter shades and adding black to make darker shades.
