Spring 1

What a cold return to school! Due to the icy weather conditions, we have started our week off with exploring all things ice! The children had so much fun investigating the frozen ice on our tray. We discussed what it felt like.. 'it is freezing!' Aadhirai says! 'It is so slippy.' Dolce agrees. We discussed why water freezes, and made predictions on what we think might happen when it gets warmer. The children enjoyed these conversations very much and had lots of fun making the most out of the frozen moulds by getting the paint out!

After spending time exploring the ice, the children's curiosity grew. They began to question 'how can we break the ice?' Luckily, they were put to the test as Jack Frost froze some of our classroom friends, turning them into ice statues! Nursery came to the rescue, as they used a range of tools and equipment to free the animals. Theeran decided the hammer was the best method, as he shows off the animal he rescued. 'Have to bang hard!' he explained. Bryan on the other hand, enjoyed using the squirty bottle filled with warm water to make the ice melt faster. The children were absolutely captivated in this activity and lots of great discussions and predictions were taking place. When all the animals were rescued, the children decided to fill a bowl with some warm water and bubble bath lotion to warm up the animals!

Some more winter sensory fun. Wrapping up our artic animals with a blanket of snow and helping the cars to drive on the icy road!

Team work in the maths corner.

Some fabulous mark making and name practice in Nursery this week!

We have been reading the book 'Whatever Next!' by Jill Murphy in Nursery. The children have really enjoyed bringing this story to life through role play and building rockets for Baby Bear to blast off into the moon! We even made some yummy jam sandwiches to eat when we get there, delicious!

We have been exploring collections of different materials with similar and different properties in the making area and the mud kitchen.

Mathematicians! We have been working hard to link numerals to amounts.
