In October it was Recycle Week - an annual event designed to celebrate and promote the benefits of recycling. It is an opportunity for us to make a positive change that will help protect our planet.
Year 3 were asked to come up with a recycling project that would have lasting impact.
Each day in year 3 we get through 20 bottles of milk. We put our bottles in the recycling box, but we came up with a plan that was even better for the environment than that! We created self contained mini eco systems.
Using our milk bottles as plant pots we took a cutting from a herb plant and planted it into our bottles. We then covered the bottle with a plastic bag. This retains the moisture and even captures the water produced by the plants transpiration.
Some of us thought the plant might suffocate inside the bag, but we were delighted to see our plants thrive as they became self contained environments.
