It’s been an exciting first week back in Nursery as we celebrated Halloween! The children enjoyed listening to the story Room on the Broom and joining in with the rhyming words and funny characters. We had lots of spooky fun making our own magic potions by mixing colourful liquids and glitter, and exploring pumpkins by scooping out the seeds and feeling the textures inside. The classroom was filled with laughter and creativity as the children dressed up and shared their ideas. What a fantastic start to the new half term!
This week in Nursery, we learned all about Bonfire Night! The children talked about fireworks, bonfires, and how to stay safe while watching them. We looked at pictures and videos of colourful fireworks lighting up the night sky and used them as inspiration for our creative activities. The children made beautiful firework art using paint splatters, glitter, bright chalks, and spray bottles on the painting easel! Bang, Pop, Zap, Zoom!
Today, the children did some observational painting using pumpkins. They carefully looked at the pumpkins’ shapes, colours, and textures—talking about how some were big and smooth while others were small and bumpy. The children tried to match the shades of orange, green, and brown they could see. They worked with great concentration, noticing the patterns and details on each pumpkin.
After our wonderful trip to Heaton Park, the children spent time reflecting on their experiences. We used picture prompts from the visit to help refresh their memories and encourage discussion about what they noticed. The children confidently spoke about the marks that they were making, using some of our key vocabulary from our Autumn topic.
The nursery children have been exploring the theme of night and day through the delightful story Owl Babies. They created their own owls in the creative area, shaping feathers, eyes, and wings with a variety of materials. In the playdough station, the children moulded owls and nighttime creatures, developing fine-motor skills as they worked. They also built miniature forests with blocks and natural materials, imagining where the owl babies might live. We have also been creating gorgeous night sky pictures, talking about what differences there are at night time.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...
In Literacy, we have been reading the story 'Whatever Next!' By Jill Murphy. We have so much fun acting out the story during our choosing time. We have been having picnics on the moon and flying off to space in a box Miss Doolan found for us! Blast off!'
Rocking around the Christmas tree...
Pattern making today in Nursery!
We have been getting in the Christmas spirit this week with lots of fun activities. We have been learning all about the birth of Baby Jesus and acting this out with our small world Nativity scene!
In maths, we have been exploring shape and space. The children worked together as a team to create different models such as space rockets and a zoo for the animals. They used lots of mathematical vocabulary to describe their models and wer very proud of the finished results!
