Spring 2

Welcome Back! This term we are going to be learning all about Dinosaurs. When the children arrived in school, they were shocked to be greeted by a new face with very big teeth! His name is Terry the T-Rex, but don't worry, he is a kind dinosaur! He is here to help us learn all about the different dinosaurs who roamed the earth millions of years ago! But first, in order for nursery to gain his trust, they had the very important task of looking after his dinosaur egg, and retrieving all of the remaining eggs from our 'Dino Land playground!'

We even made our very own fossils. The children were busy digging through the sand tray to retrieve the fossils and match them to correct dinosaur. True paleontologists in the making!

Our dinosaur swamp was very slimy today! Olaf described the texture as 'sticky' whilst Giovanni used the word 'stretchy.' Venba on the other hand, was convinced that Terry let out a big 'AAA-CHOO!'

Creation and Covenant. We have been discussing all of God's wonderful creations and how he has made everything around us. Children have been mark making in the writing corner, drawing what they feel is the most important part of God's creation to them.

A very busy day in Nursery making pancakes. We enjoyed weighing out all of the ingredients and using the whisk to mix it all together! The best part was definitely eating them. Yummy!

We have been discussing how dinosaurs do not exist anymore, they are extinct! A possible reason for this may be because of volcanoes. To put it to the test, we needed to visualise the catastrophic aftermath of a volcano! Together, the children created their very own volcano, have a look at the pictures to see the process.

Volcanic Explosion!

Once we finished our volcano project, we decided to put it to the test. We discussed what ingredients/equipment we needed to make the explosion happen. Our super scientists did a great job describing what they could see happening...

We get to enjoy lots of sensory fun in our classroom every week. This week we have been exploring gloop, and talking about its properties. 'It is creamy' Giovanna comments, as Bryan notices how fast it melts in our hands. Karis said he likes gloop most when it is hard.

Spring has sprung! It has been such an exciting week for Nursery with the arrival of some cute new faces. We had our delivery of living eggs on Monday and we have really enjoyed observing the hatching process and watching them grow each day.

Some brilliant construction work happening this week in Nursery. 'Look Miss Doolan, we made a dinosaur rescue station'. Ethan and Elias say. Meanwhile, the other children are busy creating a hotel!

Our story of the week is Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson. We heard all about the baby who lived in a cave, and he liked to make marks on the wall. The children enjoyed spending time in our classroom cave, making marks on the wall (backed with paper of course) just like in the story.

Ducklings!🦆 Nursery were thrilled when KS2 invited them over to spend some time with the ducks. The children were so gentle around them and enjoyed singing some well known nursery rhymes to them in the sunshine. What a fabulous experience for all of our youngest learners in the Cathedral School!

We have been exploring 2D shapes through using Polydron shapes. The children were excellent at recognising, naming, and talking about all of the different shapes using very interesting mathematical language, such as 'this is pointy like a pencil!' By connecting these shapes to make new ones, the children could visually see and understand how shapes can be combined and changed.

We have been blessed with the weather in Manchester this week! The children had so much fun looking around them and painting what they could see.

Some more observational painting.

We had a wonderful time getting creative as we made our very own Easter nests!

Snack in the sunshine.
