Our visit to the RHS Bridgewater linked to our plant adaptations unit in science. The children began by using microscopes to closely look at a variety of plants to identify the spores on the leaves. This led to the discussion of how plants reproduce and what they then need to survive.
Some children then became plants themselves! They looked at the plant parts and functions and the cycle of growth and reproduction.
With the knowledge of plant reproduction, the children then took cuttings of plants and potted them. We have brought them back to school to see if they can survive.
Finally, the children were given an opportunity to explore the gardens - paying particular attention to the Mediterranean plants. There they investigated the adaptations of the different plants and how this linked to the survival in their habitat.
