Living Things and their Habitat
This half term in Year 2, we have been learning all about living things and their habitats. We began by exploring what makes something living and learned about the differences between living, dead and things that have never been alive.
We investigated a range of habitats, including woodlands, oceans, deserts and polar regions, and discovered how animals and plants are suited to the places they live. We also looked closely at microhabitats, such as under logs and stones, and talked about why these small areas are important for minibeasts.
We also talked about ways we can care for the environment and why it is important to look after habitats so living things can thrive.
Our next steps are to learn about different plants and animals, understand how food chains work, and discuss how living things depend on each other for survival.
The children have enjoyed observing, questioning and sharing their ideas, and have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the topic.
